This sale will be for much of the contents of this modest home of a humble hero, SSG Walter D. Ehlers and his wife Dorothy Ehlers (Decker). SSG Walter D. Ehlers received the highest level of recognition for his courage and sacrifice. SPEARHEAD OF THE ATTACK by James Dietz and commissioned by Soldier Task Force 1-18, Baghdad and Ta'Meem, Iraq 2006-2007. The estate is selling Print #17 & #19 which are signed by Walter D. Ehlers and the artist. They both have their certificate on the back. This beautiful work of art portrays the leadership and bravery of SSG Walter Ehlers during the assault of June 9-10, 1944. Near Goville, France. SSG Ehlers led his men to knock out several enemy positions while under heavy fire and while advancing the 18th Infantry Regiment. SSG Ehlers drew enemy fire to himself allowing his men to reach safety, then carried out a wounded man after being wounded himself and then returned to retrieve his rifle. He received our country's highest honor for his incredible bravery and sacrifice.
