Condition: Good to very good condition

This is a wonderful book from the personal library of Lieut. Col. George F. Robinson. This is a 1904 Statesman Edition of THE WILDERNESS HUNTER by Theodore Roosevelt.

This book is marked as from the library of Lt. Col. George Robinson and is stamped 4 times: on the inside front cover, on the dedication page, on the title page, and on the inside back cover. This book is in good to very good condition, with only one noticeable issue: the corner and upper center of pages 63 and 64 are torn. These tears are approximately 1" in length, but does not affect text.

George F. Robinson was a soldier of the United States Army and the attendant of Secretary of State William H. Seward. He was instrumental in his role in foiling the assassination attempt on William Seward on April 14, 1865 by Lewis Powell. Powell was among the ring of plotters, along with John Wilkes Booth, who attempted to assassinate several high ranking government officials on the night of Lincoln's own assassination at the hands of Booth. Robinson was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1871 for his brave action.

Robinson joined 8th Maine Infantry in August 1863, and was serving as an attendant to Seward while recovering from battlefield wounds. He was honorably discharged in May 1865 but returned to the Army as a major in June 1879, and was retired in August 1896 after serving for 20 years.
