MONDAY - LAST DAY OF SALE - DEEP REDUCTIONS!!
Welcome to this Roselawn gem brimming with antiques, contemporary art, period accessories, books, and garden ornaments. Walk past the stone pillars and down the gravel drive to this 1910 clapboard residence. Cross the threshold and be transported back to a time when Westhampton was beyond the city limits of Richmond and the streetcar was the primary means of transportation.
The treasures in this historic house include a mahogany Regency pedestal dining table with inlaid veneer, seating 10, a set of 8 bench-made Hepplewhite shield back dining chairs —1 arm and 7 sides, a 20th c.inlaid mahogany sideboard with brass pulls, a hand carved Colonial Revival lowboy with elaborate cabriole legs and ball and claw feet, and a lovely corner cupboard. Sterling silver and fine 19th c. silver-plate include assorted candlesticks, pitchers, an ice bucket, a sardine dish, various serving dishes, a set of Lunt sterling flatware for 12, and a lovely tea service. A pair of tall mahogany pedestals with ionic capitals frame the entrance to the living room, which contains a camel back sofa and assorted wing chairs, a collection of fine early 20th c. Oriental rugs, fascinating lamps, assorted 19th c. clear and colored glass items, an extraordinary alabaster pedestal, a pair of early 18th c. carved and gessoed Putti figures (likely Italian), a 19th c. classical sewing table on a pedestal base with sandwich glass pulls, and a fine walnut drop leaf table. The sunroom contains 3 matching custom iron console tables with granite tops, and a 19th c. Empire sideboard circa 1830 (possibly Richmond-made) with half-round carved ornaments and ringed turned feet. The library is a bibliophile’s dream with a Richmond history section, gorgeous art books, and antique and vintage volumes on almost every subject. Rest in the mid-Victorian gentleman’s chair by the window, as you peruse the enormous collection on the shelves. Other interesting items include an early 20th c. steamer trunk painted red, a 1920s painted neoclassical table, an ornate brass artist’s easel, an antique Japanese Kimono used in the theatre, other Asian art, a stained glass window, vintage clothing, a large flat screen Samsung TV, and an Outsider Art life-sized alligator, hand-carved and hand-painted by a Chesterfield artist. The walls of the first floor are filled with contemporary oil paintings and watercolors by various regional and national artists. These are highlighted with 20 works by Richmond artist Marsden Williams. Her works include oils on canvas, oil stick on gessoed masonite, pen and ink drawings, and monotypes*. For the garden lover, there are numerous garden ornaments surrounding the house in a lush landscape of azaleas and flowering trees. There are concrete, stone, and metal ornaments and architectural items, including furniture, trellises, statues and planters. Of note is an early 20th c. set of The Four Seasons and an exquisite pair of baskets of fruit. Also for sale are many lovely potted trees and plants.
