Standing at over five feet high it is painted on paper mounted on a silk roll then affixed to a masonite base. The man's winter robe is in a deep blue - the official color of the Qing dynasty indicating he was a minor prince or nobleman. Fur collar and lining indicates he isa man of means along with his fur winter hat topped with a gold pendant embellished with precious stones. The square rank badge at the center of his robe includes a golden quail amidst clouds - a symbol of courage. Nearby is a "wan" the Chinese symbol which translated means "all things."
