Great interest has developed in contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art in the last few years. There have been exhibitions at many major museums recently, including Harvard's Fogg Museum and Florida International University's Frost Museum last year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art accepted 10 donated paintings to its collection a couple of months ago. The University of Virginia has a museum dedicated totally to this category [Kluge-Ruhe Museum]. The Musee' du Quai Branly [Primitive Art] in Paris has a large permanent collection and had an Aboriginal artist paint a huge permanent mural on an archway. The million dollar mark for an aboriginal painting was passed about 10 years ago at a Sotheby sale. 45 years ago, Aboriginal paintings literally could not be given away!
Remember that attendance is limited to 20. Please call 774.922.2630 to reserve a seat. Australian Aboriginal Art ONLY will be available for purchase after the talk.
