We believe this is by T. V. C. Valenkamph and that his name was misspelled in the period inscription. IMPORTANT NOTE: Assumedly during or after conservation this work was inscribed on the front Conrad Buff, the Swiss-born California Impressionist. We've never seen Buff associated with Gloucester, there is inpainting about the signature and we are quite certain the extensive Gloucester-related inscription on the stretcher is period so we believe that this is by Valenkamph and not by Buff. Qing Dynasty, this painting was described in the estate inventory as circa 300 years old however simply offered as antique and attributed.
